Every year on April 23rd, the world comes together to celebrate the beauty of books and the power of storytelling.
World Book Day isn’t just about reading, it’s about honoring the writers, the words, and the worlds they create.
It’s a day to remind us that books have the power to teach, inspire, and transport us to places we’ve never been.
The tradition began in 1922 when Vicente Clavel, a publisher from Spain, thought of a day to celebrate books and pay tribute to the famous author Miguel de Cervantes.
By 1930, the date was set to April 23rd – also the day literary giants like William Shakespeare are remembered.
Finally, in 1995, UNESCO officially declared it World Book and Copyright Day to promote reading and protect creative work.
So, as we celebrate World Book Day 2025, we have compiled a collection of quotes about literature and history, to remind us why literature matters.
